poppy and peony love

'Poppy and Peony Love' are a new series created for Sarah Arnett’s wonderful

‘Little Picture Palace’ Open House in May.

Exploring the magic of peonies and poppies my work looks to capture the essence of these captivating flowers. Both flowers with their lush, layered petals, their vibrant hues—from soft pinks to deep reds—evoke feelings of love and vitality

In Chinese culture, peonies are revered as the "king of flowers," representing wealth and honour. Poppies, on the other hand, carry a rich tapestry of meanings. Red poppies are emblematic of remembrance and sacrifice.

Based in the vibrant Lanes of Brighton these Poppy pieces are available to be seen by appointment at my studio in the Lanes, Brighton.

The Peony paintings have sold but there will be new Peony paintings all pieces come as a triptych.

cloris series

My work is inspired by my travels ‘Cloris’ is inspired by my Summer holiday to the beautiful Greek island of Kos.
This series is a celebration of Greek flowers that inhabit the island. ‘Cloris’
Greek Χλωρίς Chlōrís, from χλωρός chlōrós, meaning "greenish-yellow", "pale green", "pale", "pallid", or "fresh was a nymph/goddess who was associated with spring, flowers and new growth, believed to have dwelt in the Elysian Fields.

flemish florals

A new series of paintings inspired by Roses, their darkness and evolution. Inspired by the Dutch masters this series explores the darkness and moody tones.

My  love of Roses spans three generations, my late Grandma who loved them and summer visits to the Rose Gardens in Regents Park with my mother and young daughter.

This series explores a darker side to my work, using black as a base and observing how Roses decay and evolve.

Each painting is a snapshot of the Rose at that time and challenging me to use new tones and textures in my work.

hibiscus hues

Inspired by a trip to the Canary Islands, this series focuses on the Hibiscus flower and all its magical hues and colours,.

Each colour holds a different meaning, this resonates with the artist who likes to link her art to wellbeing and emotions. An emotive collection of affordable art created to bring joy and happiness.

about

Madeleine King is an emerging artist based in Brighton and Hove, working from her studio in the heart of Brighton North Laines.

Her art school days were at Middlesex University and Brighton University studying Fashion and Textiles focusing on Print design. During her placement year she worked in France, Italy, and Paris in prestigious textile studios. Since graduating she has followed a career in the Fashion industry and now balances her work in fashion with her newfound love of painting.

A huge part of her time is spent in nature being an all-round sea swimmer, loving the stark cold at this time of year with the wonderful, brilliant sunshine. Inspired by being outside observing the changing seasons through plants, flowers and mainly her garden.

The artist is interested in how flowers can fragment and distort, the key element of each painting is to communicate this distortion using oil pastel and arcylics.

Her work is mainly inspired by flowers that she sees on her travels, her latest body of work 'Cloris' is inspired by recent travels to the Greek island of Kos.

‘Each painting evokes a feeling of hope and happiness I hope you enjoy them as much as I do painting them’

She has exhibited her work in various shows in London and Brighton, completing many ‘floral’ commissions with private clients.
